Our Friend in need...
There are only two Irish Studies Programs
that offer minors in Irish Studies.
One is located at Notre Dame University in
South Bend, Indian; the other is at the University
of Montana, located in Missoula, MT.
At this time, the lion's share of the funding for UM's
program comes from a grant offered by the
Irish Government in recognition of the
significant contribution of Montana's
Irish-Americans who worked so diligently to
preserve the Irish language (Gaelic) and
culture in their new homes in America.
Friends of Irish Studies recognizes that
a greater share of the funding must come
from the University and those interested in
preserving this wonderful program at UM.

Membership
in Friends of Irish Studies in the West is open
to the public. Our 501 (c)(3) IRS tax
exempt non-profit organization was formed
in 2007 by a group of Montanans of Irish descent
who wanted to see the Irish Studies Program at
the University of Montana grow and develop into
a one-of-a-kind exchange of education,
information and personnel between Ireland and the
Northern Rockies. |

Language,
music, dance, history, literature and drama are
a part of what makes culture. The
University of Montana Irish Studies Program has
a variety of classes to explore in all these
disciplines. |
